Solar-assisted sewage treatment: verify the power scope before an off-grid claim

Separate solar energy contribution, outage support and off-grid operation using a load worksheet, defined supply boundaries and a project-specific acceptance record.

For a solar-assisted sewage enquiry, ask what the power package must actually do before discussing panel area. BOKAWATER lists a solar-integrated domestic sewage product as item 00345; the listing alone does not establish your project's autonomy. The checklist below addresses the energy and operating evidence that should accompany a configuration-specific proposal.

1. Separate energy contribution from operation during an outage

Write three separate questions into the enquiry: how much energy solar contributes during normal service; which loads continue when the grid fails; and whether operation must continue without a grid connection. These are different duties. DOE explains that ordinary grid-dependent solar may disconnect during an outage; solar generation alone is therefore not evidence of backup capability.

Make the supplier identify the proposed power architecture and its boundary. Ask which panels, mounting, inverter, storage, controls and backup connection are included, and which are supplied by others. Mark unknown items as unconfirmed. A generic component description should not be converted into a promise about the delivered battery size or permitted operating duration.

2. Build a load worksheet before selecting storage

For each proposed blower, transfer pump, return pump, control panel and auxiliary, collect its confirmed electrical demand, operating hours and required operating mode. Record simultaneous operation and starting requirements separately from daily energy. Keep continuous process loads distinct from occasional maintenance loads so the supplier can explain which equipment is essential during the stated interruption case.

As a hypothetical arithmetic example, one constant 1.2 kW load running for 20 hours consumes 24 kWh. This excludes all other equipment, conversion losses and reserve, and is not a rating for item 00345 or a recommendation for a battery. Use confirmed project loads, seasonal solar conditions and the requested interruption duration for an actual design review.

3. Agree what the power and process handover must demonstrate

Before an order, define the evidence needed for each operating case: approved equipment list, electrical diagram, power settings, alarm ownership, backup responsibility and operating instructions. The quotation should state the feed and treatment duty assumed during reduced-power operation. Do not assume an electrical energy balance establishes biological treatment capacity or effluent quality.

Plan the acceptance sequence with the responsible electrical designer and treatment operator. Agree the safe influent and alarm procedure before any outage demonstration, record the initial state and the loads maintained, and retain the test result with the final settings. If autonomy or treatment conditions are not demonstrated, keep them open in the handover record instead of treating a solar label as acceptance.

Evidence scope — original English record

Confirms the existing product identity and solar-assisted sewage-treatment category only. The draft does not infer a contracted battery capacity, off-grid duration, treatment rating or guaranteed supply scope from the listing.

Evidence scope — original English record

Supports the distinction between PV generation, mounting, inverters and storage. The procurement worksheet and numerical illustration are original planning tools, not DOE equipment ratings.

    Source checked:
Evidence scope — original English record

Explains that ordinary grid-dependent solar can shut off during a grid outage and that appropriately configured storage/island operation differs from ordinary grid-connected generation. Does not prove an individual BOKAWATER package has those capabilities.
